Asda 2p off diesel promotion sparking supermarket fuel price wars

Filling up

Asda say

“We’re cutting another 2p off the price of petrol and diesel – leading the way in reducing the cost of fuel for the third time in three weeks.

From tomorrow you’ll pay no more than 134.7p for a litre of unleaded and 139.7p per litre of diesel at any of our 196 Asda filling stations.”

Hopefully this all translates into a new price war at the pumps – its nice to see prices going in the correct direction for a change.

High Diesel Prices Spark Protests

Published on 20/02/2012 by in Fuel Additives

Today I was reading that haulage companies in the UK are planning on staging protests to encourage the chancellor to reduce the UK’s high levy on fuel. Whilst as a consumer I understand only too well the pain that current fuel prices cause, I believe that in the long run our high tax levy is something that will actually protect the UK economy.

Allow me to explain that remark, I subscribe to the theory of ‘peak oil’ the concept that whilst we may have 50% of world oil stocks left – production ability from here on in will only decrease which in turn will make the world oil price rise even more rapidly. Because the UK and its businesses are already used to paying very high fuel prices at some stage, the government will be forced to reduce its fuel taxes – in the face of rising oil prices.

The net result for the UK will be stable oil prices – whereas countries which have very low fuel duty,  will experience huge increases in fuel prices – a disastrous situation for most economies. I do not think that now is the right time to start reducing the duty however – only when things start getting really dire perhaps in another 5-6 years.

Cost of “Premium Diesel”

Published on 20/02/2012 by in Fuel Additives

Yesterday I was looking to fill up my car, time was of the essence as I was late for an appointment,as such the priority was a garage not the price of the fuel. Eventually I located a BP service station, I pulled up to a pump and added a shot of Aderco to my tank.

I was at about 20 pounds of fuel before I noticed the price of my diesel – £1.58 a litre. It turned out that unlike larger garages which had two types of diesel per pump, this place had one pump for regular diesel and another for their additivesed variant “ultimate” I think it was called.

I moved to the regular pump and continued to fill the car at £1.41 but it started me thinking that’s 18p a litre extra for the same benefit I get from 1p a litre extra using Aderco – its a hefty margin.

I was annoyed at the way this particular garage was laid out – it was almost masking the expensive version – I bet I’m not the first (or the last) customer to have been caught out in this way.

How It Works

Aderco L1050 Lubricity Improver

Aderco L1050 Lubricity Improver and Additive for petrol and diesel

Aderco 5000 does not make exhorbitant claims as with some fuel additives to halve your fuel usage or improve your sexlife. It works in a very prescribed way which offers distinct benefits for petroleum based fuels, and has been doing so for many years in specific sectors (eg. shipping) It is worth taking time to explain what the benefits are and how the product achieves its claims. Read more
